Frequently Asked Questions

The tool uses TinyURL (tinyurl.com) and Is.gd (is.gd) — two established free shortening services. Auto Select mode picks the best available service. Both services are free, require no signup from you, and their links are publicly accessible. Local mode creates browser-only short links that do not go through any external service.

TinyURL and Is.gd links are permanent — they do not expire. Local shortenings (created in Local Only mode) only work in your current browser and are lost if you clear your browser data. For permanent, shareable links, use TinyURL or Is.gd.

Yes. Enable the Custom Alias option and enter your preferred alias (letters, numbers, and hyphens only). The short link becomes is.gd/your-alias or tinyurl.com/your-alias. Custom aliases must be unique — if the alias is already taken, the tool will use an auto-generated one instead.

Switch to the Bulk URLs tab and enter one URL per line, up to 50 URLs. Click Shorten All and the tool processes each URL in sequence, displaying results as they complete. You can copy all shortened URLs at once or export them as a .txt file.

When QR Code generation is enabled, each shortened URL automatically gets a scannable QR code. You can copy the QR code image or download it as a PNG file. Useful for print materials, business cards, posters, or any scenario where people will scan rather than type the URL.

When Track Clicks is enabled, the tool counts how many times you click the "Visit Site" button for each shortened URL. This is stored locally in your browser using localStorage — it tracks your own clicks in this browser only, not global click counts across all visitors. It is useful for personal tracking of which links you actually use.

The tool enforces a 2,000-character maximum URL length. This is a practical limit — extremely long URLs can cause issues with some shortening services. Standard URLs are well within this limit. If your URL exceeds 2,000 characters, check for unnecessary query parameters that can be removed.

No. Your URL history, click counts, and settings are stored only in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to our servers. The only external call is to the shortening service (TinyURL or Is.gd) to create the short link.

What Is a URL Shortener?

Long URLs are ugly in tweets, emails, and presentations. This tool takes any URL and gives you a compact, shareable link using services like TinyURL and Is.gd. You can also create local short links that work right in your browser.

Key Features

Shorten individual URLs or process up to 50 at once in bulk mode. Every shortened link gets a free QR code. You can set custom aliases, track click counts locally, and manage your history of shortened URLs -- all without creating an account.

Common Use Cases

Social media posts where character counts matter, marketing campaigns that need trackable links, printed materials where QR codes make sense, or just cleaning up a gnarly URL before sharing it in a chat.

Tips

Custom aliases only work with certain services. Local shortenings are stored in your browser, so they will not work on other devices. For permanent links, stick with TinyURL or Is.gd.

Privacy

Your URL history and click data stay in your browser's local storage. The only external call is to the shortening service itself -- we do not log or store anything on our end.
