Frequently Asked Questions

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. You work in focused 25-minute intervals called "pomodoros," take a 5-minute break, and after four pomodoros take a longer 15-30 minute break. The structured rhythm prevents mental fatigue, reduces the impact of interruptions, and makes large tasks feel manageable by breaking them into timed chunks.

Yes. The countdown runs via JavaScript in the background and is not paused when you switch tabs or minimize the browser. When a session ends you get an audio alert and, if you granted permission, a browser notification — so you do not need to keep the tab visible.

Yes. Open Settings and adjust work duration (1-120 minutes), short break duration (1-60 minutes), long break duration (1-60 minutes), and how many sessions before a long break. Saved settings persist across page reloads via localStorage, so your configuration is waiting the next time you open the tool.

Yes, when Sound Notification is enabled in Settings the timer plays a tone when each session or break ends. The sound works in all modern browsers. If you open the timer in a tab that has not received any user interaction yet (click or keypress), the browser may block autoplay audio — simply click anywhere on the page first.

With Browser Notification enabled, the timer requests permission to send a desktop notification. Once granted, a notification appears when a work session or break ends — even if the browser is minimized. Click the notification to bring the tab back into focus. You can revoke permission at any time in your browser settings.

Everything is stored in your browser's localStorage. Settings persist indefinitely until you clear browser data. Daily stats (focus time, session count, break count) are tied to the current day and reset automatically at midnight. Nothing is uploaded to any server and there is no account to create.

Yes. The task field at the top of the timer lets you type what you are working on before starting. This label stays visible during the session as a focus reminder. The task name is not saved to history — it is just for the current session, helping you resist the urge to multitask.

Yes. The Pomodoro Timer is a fully client-side tool. Once the page is loaded, the timer runs without any internet connection. No server calls are made during operation. You could go offline mid-session and the countdown would continue without interruption.

What Is a Pomodoro Timer?

It is a focus tool built around the Pomodoro Technique -- work in short, timed bursts (usually 25 minutes), take a break, repeat. This version runs right in your browser with a clean circular countdown, audio cues, and daily stats.

How It Works

Hit Start and the timer begins a work session. When it rings, a short break kicks in automatically. After four rounds you get a longer break. The cycle keeps you fresh without needing to watch the clock yourself.

Customization

Every duration is adjustable -- work from 1 to 120 minutes, breaks from 1 to 60, and you pick how many rounds before the long break. Settings stick around between sessions thanks to localStorage.

Who Benefits Most?

Students cramming for exams, developers working through a backlog, writers fighting procrastination -- anyone who needs structured focus time without an elaborate app.

Privacy

The timer is 100% client-side. No accounts, no data uploads, no tracking. Your stats and settings stay in your browser and nowhere else.
