Frequently Asked Questions

Input: JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Output format can be chosen independently — save as JPEG for smaller file size, PNG to preserve transparency in the original image, or WebP for better compression on modern platforms. If you input a PNG with a transparent background and want to preserve that transparency in the output, choose PNG as the output format (JPEG does not support transparency).

No. All watermark processing happens locally in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your original image, your watermark logo, and the result are never sent to any server. The tool works completely offline once the page is loaded. Safe for personal photos, client work, and confidential documents.

Yes. Switch to Image Watermark mode and upload a watermark image file. PNG format with a transparent background works best — the transparent areas let the photo show through while only the logo shape is visible. JPEG logos will have a white rectangle behind them. You can control the logo size as a percentage of the image width and choose its position.

Tile mode repeats the watermark in a grid pattern across the entire image instead of placing it in a single location. This makes the watermark virtually impossible to remove by cropping — there is no corner or edge where the watermark is absent. Use Tile mode for proof images sent to clients before payment, for stock photo previews, or for any image where content protection takes priority over aesthetics.

The right opacity depends on the use case. For visible copyright watermarks on social media (meant to be seen and deter casual theft): 40-60% opacity. For subtle "confidential" or "draft" markings on documents: 20-30% opacity. For proof images where you want the watermark very prominent: 70-80%. Avoid 100% opacity for most cases — it distracts from the image too aggressively and can be cropped out easily if it is in one corner.

Yes. The Rotation slider lets you tilt the watermark from 0 to 360 degrees. A diagonal placement (around 30-45 degrees) is a classic watermark style that is harder to remove than a horizontal one. Diagonal watermarks combined with Tile mode provide maximum coverage against unauthorized use.

JPEG: smaller file size, best for sharing photos where exact transparency is not needed. PNG: lossless quality, preserves transparency — use when the original had a transparent background or when you need pixel-perfect quality. WebP: best compression and quality, supported by all modern browsers and many apps. For most photo watermarking use cases, JPEG at 85-90 quality is the practical choice.

No. A watermark is a deterrent, not an absolute protection. Sophisticated users can remove a single-position watermark with image editing tools. A Tile mode watermark is significantly harder to remove. The primary benefit of watermarking is attribution — when an image is shared without permission, the watermark still identifies the original creator. For critical commercial content, pair watermarking with technical measures like DMCA registration and reverse image search monitoring.

Why You Should Watermark Your Images

Sharing images online without a watermark is basically an open invitation to steal them. A watermark does not make your photo theft-proof, but it makes unauthorized use obvious and traceable. Photographers, designers and content creators use watermarks as a first line of defense before sending proofs to clients or posting work on social media.

Text vs Logo Watermarks

Text watermarks are quick and easy: type your name or copyright notice and you are done. Logo watermarks look more professional and reinforce your brand. Use a PNG logo with a transparent background for the cleanest result. Either way, keep the opacity low enough that the watermark is visible but does not distract from the image itself.

Tile Mode for Maximum Protection

A single watermark in one corner can be cropped out in seconds. Tile mode repeats the watermark across the entire image, making it nearly impossible to remove without destroying the photo. This is especially useful for proof images sent to clients before payment or for stock photography previews.
