Soalan Lazim

Kekhususan CSS menentukan peraturan gaya mana yang mengambil keutamaan apabila beberapa peraturan menyasarkan elemen yang sama. Ia dikira sebagai nilai empat bahagian (inline, ID, kelas/atribut/pseudo-kelas, elemen/pseudo-elemen). Gaya inline mendapat markah (1,0,0,0). Pemilih ID (#id) mendapat (0,1,0,0). Pemilih kelas, pemilih atribut dan pseudo-kelas masing-masing mendapat (0,0,1,0). Pemilih elemen dan pseudo-elemen mendapat (0,0,0,1). Pemilih dengan kekhususan tertinggi menang. Apabila kekhususan sama, peraturan yang muncul kemudian dalam helaian gaya akan menang. Pengisytiharan !important mengatasi semua peraturan kekhususan.

Titik bertindih tunggal (:) menandakan pseudo-kelas, yang memilih elemen berdasarkan keadaan atau kedudukan mereka — contohnya :hover, :focus, :nth-child() atau :not(). Titik bertindih berganda (::) menandakan pseudo-elemen, yang memilih dan menggayakan bahagian tertentu sesuatu elemen — contohnya ::before, ::after, ::first-line atau ::placeholder. Sintaks titik bertindih berganda diperkenalkan dalam CSS3 untuk membezakan pseudo-elemen daripada pseudo-kelas. Untuk keserasian ke belakang, kebanyakan pelayar masih menerima titik bertindih tunggal untuk pseudo-elemen lama seperti :before dan :after.

:nth-child(n) memilih elemen yang merupakan anak ke-n ibu bapanya, tanpa mengira jenis elemen. Jadi p:nth-child(2) memilih

hanya jika ia anak kedua ibu bapanya. :nth-of-type(n) memilih adik-beradik ke-n daripada jenis elemen yang sama. Jadi p:nth-of-type(2) memilih

kedua dalam kalangan adik-beradiknya, tanpa mengira kedudukannya di antara jenis elemen lain. Dalam amalan, :nth-of-type() biasanya lebih mudah dijangka apabila terdapat jenis elemen yang bercampur di dalam bekas.

Pemilih atribut memadankan elemen berdasarkan kehadiran atau nilai atribut HTML mereka. [attr] memilih elemen yang mempunyai atribut tersebut. [attr="nilai"] memilih elemen di mana atribut adalah sama tepat dengan nilai. [attr^="nilai"] sepadan jika atribut bermula dengan nilai. [attr$="nilai"] sepadan jika ia berakhir dengan nilai. [attr*="nilai"] sepadan jika atribut mengandungi nilai di mana-mana sahaja. [attr~="nilai"] sepadan jika atribut adalah senarai dipisahkan ruang yang mengandungi nilai. Contohnya, a[href^="https"] menyasarkan semua pautan yang bermula dengan "https".

Ya. Pemilih boleh digabungkan dalam beberapa cara. Pengelompokan (A, B) menggunakan gaya yang sama pada beberapa pemilih. Rantaian (A.B atau A:hover) menyasarkan elemen yang memenuhi semua syarat serentak — contohnya div.active memadankan
dengan kelas "active". Penggabung mentakrifkan hubungan: ruang (A B) menyasarkan keturunan, > (A > B) menyasarkan anak terus, + (A + B) menyasarkan adik-beradik bersebelahan dan ~ (A ~ B) menyasarkan semua adik-beradik berikutnya. Menggabungkan teknik ini membolehkan penulisan peraturan yang sangat spesifik tanpa memerlukan kelas atau ID tambahan.
